Set in the Mababe Depression in northern Botswana, LIONS tells the true story of the birth of an extraordinary, chaotic, ecosystem and the animals that dominate it. In 2017 powerful earthquakes in the region redirected a river into the many-decades-dry Mababe depression creating, almost overnight, an abundant wetland which draws animals from thousands of miles around into proximity with each other and into an inevitable, ceaseless and violent struggle for survival.

Following the lives of a pride of Lions as the film’s leading protagonists, the film strips away the sanitized, humanised approach that dominates contemporary nature filmmaking to tell a radical, powerful and authentic story of this extraordinary location and the animals that live and die there.
